Deepening the Senses – ‘Samhain -The Cailleach’s Descent’ Online Morning Workshop/Gathering – October 31st 2020

‘Sometimes a wanderer in the darkness of night is grateful for the faltering yellow glow of a lone lantern, or the pale streaks of the first light of dawn’ – Carl Jung

“The psyche and souls of women also have their own cycles and seasons of doing and solitude, running and staying, being involved and removed, questing and resting, creating and incubating, being of the world, and returning to the soul-place’ – Clarissa Pinkola Estés

You are invited to join me for a morning’s online gathering, – Deepening the Senses – ‘The Cailleach’s Descent’ this October 31st 2020 to celebrate Samhain.

Samhain marks the beginning of the darkest part of the year, the beginning of Winter. In Samhain, the Cailleach, the wise old woman of Winter, leaves the mountains and begins her walk across the lands bringing the winter storms, snow and darkness with her. it is the time of the year where she makes her descent into the underworld to incubate the seeds of the new life. Darkness is associated with new beginnings. The potential of the seed below the ground.

In this workshop, we will attune to the stirring in our own innerworld, connecting to our place in the cycle of the seasons, listening to the ancient wisdom that is held within. During this morning’s gathering, I will incorporate some aspects from the popular Deepening the Senses Retreats, as well as a talk on the ‘Journey inward’, – drawing on a variety of perspectives and thought from the field of Psychology, Mythology, Psychotherapy, Philosophy, literature and art utilizing images from art and poetry in a way that aims to be accessible and thought-provoking, to inspire you and support you on your own path.

By learning to attune more deeply to the senses, we connect to the aliveness in our bodies and the wisdom that is held within. So often in our lives, for many reasons, we listen more to our thoughts than we do to our embodied selves.  When we connect inward we learn how to support ourselves more fully in our lives. When we listen to myths, if we let ourselves step into their world of poetry and imagination, we step out of the rational concrete patriarchal world of our time and into the symbolic life. In this way we become receptive to our inner environment, and the energies of life and the archetypal patterns living through us.

During the morning workshop, we will draw on the wisdom of the Cailleach, the transformative power of darkness, of mythology and dreams, utilizing mindful meditation, the medium of poetry as well as exploring the thoughts and ideas from philosophy and literature – supported by images from art, to deepen our understanding of ourselves. It aims to be a nurturing online space with time to let go of everyday commitments and attune to ourselves.

‘You have travelled too fast over false ground

now your soul has come to take you back.

Take refuge in your senses, open up

to all the small miracles you rushed through.

Become inclined to watch the way rain

when it falls slow and free

imitates the habit of twilight,

taking time to open the well of color

that fostered the brightness of day.

Draw alongside the silence of stone

until its calmness can claim you’

John O Donoghue

“I loved the style of the Facilitator. Your manner Eileen, the structure and delivery of the subject matter, even though it was on Zoom, was just perfect. You interacted with all the participants in equal measure which is not always the way of the facilitator. I felt this was the right subject matter for me . I wasn’t disappointed. It hit the nail on the head. It was wonderful”

“It was perfect. Eileen is a fantastic facilitator. Calm, safe, inclusive and nurturing online space. Since following you on facebook, I have always wanted to take part in one of your retreats Eileen. It was everything I expected and more! It really did exactly what it said on the tin, it deepened my senses. The images you used were stunning and the writings and poems you read were perfect. The meditation was particularly powerful for me, I have never relaxed into a meditation as I did at your gathering. My entire body and soul felt it very deeply. Thank you so much for a wonderful morning. I am so delighted that you can now offer a Zoom gathering. I felt it worked well, and suited me to sit in the comfort of my own home and I will definitely partake again in the future “
