Deepening the Senses ‘Crossing the Threshold’ – A Morning’s Zoom Gathering for Nollaig na mBan – Saturday 7th January 2023

In a way Winter is the real Spring, the time when the inner things happen, the resurge of nature” – Edna O’Brien

The Psyches and souls of women also have their own cycles and seasons of doing and solitude, running and staying, being involved and being removed, questing and resting, creating and incubating, being of the world and returning to the soul-place – Clarissa Pinkola Estes.

January is a time of the year for contemplation and reflection. We are on the threshold between the Old and the New Year, this is a time of letting go of what is past and welcoming the new.

‘Deepening the Senses’ Online Gathering takes place on January 7th 2023, to celebrate Nollaig na mBan or ‘Women’s Christmas’. This is a unique ancient Irish pagan tradition where women, on this day, stopped their daily work and spent the day or evening at the fire side in the company of other women, sharing their stories, passions, songs and lives as a celebration of themselves and the mother goddess.

On January 7th we will meet at the threshold of this New Year for a nourishing morning’s gathering. Often in our lives we arrive at thresholds. At those times we can ask ourselves – What am I leaving? What am I about to enter? What gifts would enable me to do it?

Our life thresholds are often accompanied by great complexity of emotions-, confusion, fear, excitement, sadness and hope. This is one reason why such vital threshold crossings, in our ancient wisdom, were always clothed in ritual. On this Gathering we will acknowledge and celebrate this meeting at the threshold and this crossing.

During our ‘Deepening the Senses’ Gatherings, we deepen into the world of the senses – awakening a more grounded authentic connectedness to ourselves and bringing conscious awareness in our bodies to our presence in the world.

On our morning’s gathering, we will journey inward, attuning to the stirring in our own inner world, connecting to our place in the cycle of the seasons, listening to the ancient wisdom that is held within. We will draw on the wisdom of mythology, utilizing mindfulness meditation, the medium of poetry, music and imagery to assist us. There will be a presentation that draws on understandings from psychotherapy, philosophy, literature and poetry using images and music to evoke and stir the senses and imagination. We will also have an opportunity to work with dream images, hearing from participants what images and dreams are stirring for them at this threshold time.

When we listen to myths, if we let ourselves step into their world of poetry and imagination, we step out of the rational concrete patriarchal world of our time and into the symbolic life. In this way, we become receptive to our inner environment and the energies living through us. This morning aims to provide a nurturing online space with time to let go of everyday commitments and attune to ourselves.

Prior experience of body work and personal therapy work, whilst desirable, is not essential.

TESTIMONIALS:

“Míle buíochas for a beautiful morning. It was a lovely gentle time which proved insightful and restful. As an ‘ordinary’ participant I found insight and wonder in the experience and my own engagement with the group and own process. As a therapist, I am always impacted profoundly by being afforded the privilege of witnessing a colleague work in their own unique way. To be on the other end of your wonderful, intuitive ways was an amazing learning opportunity for me and I am humbled in my thanks”

“As this was my first retreat, |I really enjoyed it and enjoyed the pacing of it. I loved your style. Your energy and gentleness was beautiful. You got each person, heard them and allowed them to be heard. I have been looking for courses that touch in with the soul. I found that yesterday. Thank you so much. I look forward to joining again. A really lovely group of women too”

“Thank you Eileen for such a safe space for us all to calmly open our hearts and souls in to the shared experience. It was truly wonderful. I loved the images with your score of evocative and thought provoking music, poetry and word. I think that was a really important part of the morning, the imagery was truly astounding”
