Deepening the Senses – Awakening the Feminine – ‘Inanna’s Descent to the Underworld’ – Residential Retreat – 20th July 2018

inanna
‘From the great above, she opened her ear to the great below,
From the great above, Inanna opened her ear to the great below.

The moment Inanna opens her ear to the great below, her journey begins. Yet although her journey begins at once, the way to the underworld is slow and laborious. To enter the spiritual realm of the underworld, Inanna must give up her earthly powers. One by one, Inanna abandons her glory, both in heaven and on earth’ ..and so she begins the journey…

‘Initiation is the process by which we turn from our natural inclination to remain unconscious and decide that whatever it takes – suffering, striving, enduring – we will pursue conscious union with the deeper mind, the wild self’.

‘This is the beginning of a road whose end is totally unknown and totally known’

I am delighted to invite you to join me once again in the beautiful heartland of the Boyne Valley in County Meath for a unique and memorable weekend residential experience.  The Boyne Valley is an ancient landscape steeped in myth and history. Nearby the Hill of Tara and the ancient sites of New Grange, Knowth and Lough Crew are all known as sacred places of dwelling for the Gods and entrances to the other world.

During our ‘Deepening the Senses’ Retreat we explore the world of the senses – connecting to the archetypal energy of the feminine – awakening a more grounded authentic connectedness to ourselves and bringing conscious awareness in our bodies to our presence in the world. We will revisit the mythical story of Inanna. This Sumerian Myth is over 5000 years old. It tells the story of Inanna’s descent to the underworld, her journey through the seven gates, stripping herself of her worldly powers, to unite with her sister Ereshkigal who is living in darkness in the otherworld. During her Journey she e During the retreat we will spend time indoors and outdoors exploring that sensory embodied connection to the landscape around us. We will also be utilising the medium of poetry, mythology and imagery, gentle mindful movements, art and clay work, meditation, and dream imaging, exploring the language of our dreams and their symbols in our psyches to assist us. The two days will provide a nurturing space with time to let go of everyday commitments and attune to ourselves.

There will be free time to walk, relax, rest and enjoy the surrounding countryside. You will enjoy good nourishing food and on our last evening we will gather at the hearth and the log fire, for the ancient tradition of our ancestors – sharing songs and poetry, music, story-telling and conversations. We aim to create a warm atmosphere where we will awaken the senses, deepen our understanding of ourselves and explore the sensual and awaken the feminine energy in our everyday lives.xperiences deep transformation. Her sister self, Ereshkigal experiences a profound change within herself too. On this unique weekend, we will draw from the realm of myth and archetypes to deepen our own understanding of ourselves and drawing on our connection to the wisdom of the ancient landscape around us, we will attune inward to our own inner journeying, appreciating in our subtle bodies the richness of the present moment in our lives.

When we listen to myths, if we let ourselves step into their world of poetry and imagination, we step out of the rational concrete patriarchal world of our time and into the symbolic life. In this way we become receptive to our inner environment, and the energies of life and the creative energy of the feminine that is calls us back to our authentic selves.

Prior experience of  personal therapy work is desirable but not essential.
