Introduction
When we turn toward our inner world, we begin a process of becoming more fully ourselves. We cultivate a greater sense of wholeness—an inner anchor from which to meet the world.
In Jungain depth psychology, this movement toward wholeness is known as individuation, a lifelong process of integrating the many dimensions of ourselves: body, feeling, intellect, imagination, instinct, and the deeper life of the psyche. When these aspects fall out of relationship, we may feel disconnected from ourselves, our bodies, our emotions, or our sense of meaning.
The reasons for this disconnection are often rooted in our earliest experiences. When childhood does not provide the conditions for our full development, parts of ourselves may remain unseen, unheard, or pushed aside. Trauma can also leave the nervous system caught in patterns of survival, disconnecting us from our vitality, creativity, and authentic expression. We may carry a quiet sense of exile, as though something essential has been lost.
Yet beneath these adaptations, the psyche continues to seek wholeness. As we slow down and become attentive to the language of the body, dreams, imagination, symbol, image, poetry, myth, and the natural world, another way of knowing begins to emerge. Here, meaning is not imposed but discovered. Forgotten aspects of ourselves can be encountered, and transformation unfolds through that inner relationship. This approach has been at the heart of my Deepening the Senses work for over 20 years, drawing together Jungian depth psychology, psychodynamic psychotherapy, celtic wisdom, Irish folklore, mythology, somatic psychotherapy, and the arts into a symbolic return to the inner teallach, the inner hearth.
Deepening the Senses - Returning to the hearth
To deepen the senses is ultimately to remember our belonging—to ourselves, to our ancestors, to place, and to the living world.
The Irish word teallach refers to the hearth—the centre of the home, where warmth, story, memory, and belonging were kept alive. It offers a living metaphor for the inner life, which is why I chose Teallach as the name for my website. It also connects me to my own community in Connemara, where the hearth was a gathering place for stories, music, poetry, and myth that nourished both community and soul. For me, teallach reflects a movement inward: a symbolic coming home from the noise of the outer world to the quiet presence of the inner life.
In that same spirit, Deepening the Senses invites us to tend our own inner teallach—the place where imagination illuminates the darkness, suffering can be held with compassion, and new possibilities for living a symbolic life, aligned with our soul selves, quietly emerges.
The work unfolds at your pace, with attention to what is ready to be seen, felt, and understood.
This work is designed to explore connections to ancestral and collective layers of the psyche.
My own work is deeply informed by the Irish landscape, mythology, and ancestral imagination, particularly for those who feel a connection to Ireland, whether through lived experience or family heritage. This exploration lies at the heart of my Deepening the Senses courses and programmes.
As we explore the inner world, we may begin to notice patterns, stories, and emotional inheritances that seem to extend beyond our individual lives. In many Irish families, the emotional impact of emigration, displacement, silence, and loss has often remained unspoken, yet continues to echo across generations.
This may be experienced as a quiet longing, a sense of disconnection, or a grief without clear words. Bringing these inherited patterns into awareness can open new possibilities for understanding, belonging, and relationship with oneself.
Many people are drawn to this work despite never having lived in Ireland. They describe a deep sense of connection to its landscape, stories, and ancestral memory. Together, we explore how these images, myths, and cultural inheritances may live within the psyche—not as fixed identities, but as symbolic resources that can deepen our understanding of ourselves and our place in the world..

“I have observed dreams and visions very carefully, and am now certain that the imagination has some way of lighting on the truth that the reason has not, and that its commandments, delivered when the body is still and the reason silent, are hte most binding we can ever know”

50 minute sessions
Each session is shaped by you and what is emerging in the moment. This is not a prescriptive or solution-focused approach, but a process of unfolding, integration, and coming into deeper relationship with yourself.
-
It is a highly personalized process of exploring what you need support with, why you are reaching out, and the deeper unlying needs that may surface in our work together. We will explore your strengths and resources and how they can help you make the necessary changes in the patterns of your life that are no longer serving you.
We will explore setting goals more aligned with your authentic self. We look at how low self-confidence and low self-worth may be holding you back. We will explore ways to support you in cultivating self-compassion and self-acceptance. This may include support to regulate emotions as well as supporting yourself in creating more boundaries with others, and thereby enhance your relationship with yourself and those around you.

In my Depth Work, we deepen our connection to the inner world and symbolic life. To that end, I often work creatively with dream images in sessions, as well as with other images that may arise organically in the course of the session. Exploring the symbolic landscape to cultivate a greater embodied sense of connection with that inner world and soul self.
We unearth core belief systems and unconscious patterns that may also inhibit your development and growth. What stories do you tell yourself unconsciously that hinder or nourish you? In an integrative, embodied way, we explore together how to process those long-held limiting belief systems so you can feel more resourced and empowered, creating a stronger sense of internal anchor and rootedness to meet your life in greater connection and not so cut off from your authentic soul self.

Psychotherapy is derived from the Greek "psyche" (soul) and "therapeia" (serve), which means "to serve the soul."

“Through these workshops and Personal Development Work with Eileen, I am able to return to a more grounded deep knowing that transformation is a necessary part of life. I am finally allowing myself that grace and self compassion to grieve the aspects of myself and my life that are dying off or are no longer useful. Eileen’s style is amazing. Her empathy, intuition and gentle nature creates a supportive environment of exploring and reclaiming one’s ‘Self’.”

“Thank you for the incredible session last week. It was deeply liberating. I am filled with such gratitude. Thank you for your wisdom and analytic skill in holding a therapeutic and alchemical container for me. There are soooo many unqualified people out there. You come from such a rich base of clinical experience and weave it so intricately with the richness of Irish wisdom in the humanities - Blessings.”
