Deepening the Senses – ‘Crossing the Threshold’ Day Retreat – January 6th 2018 – Nollaig na mBan

DEEPENING THE SENSES – ‘CROSSING THE THRESHOLD’ DAY RETREAT

“In a way winter is the real spring, the time when the inner things happen, the resurge of nature” – Edna O’ Brien

“The psyches and souls of women also have their own cycles and seasons of doing and solitude, running and staying, being involved and being removed, questing and resting, creating and incubating, being of the world and returning to the soul-place”

– Clarissa Pinkola Estés

January is a time of the year for contemplation and reflection. We are on the threshold between the Old and the New Year, this is a time of letting go of what is past and welcoming the new.

‘Deepening the Senses’ Day retreat takes place on January 6th, Nollaig na mBan or ‘Women’s Christmas’. This is a unique ancient Irish pagan tradition where women, on this day, stopped their daily work and spent the day or evening at the fire side in the company of other women, sharing their stories, passions, songs and lives as a celebration of themselves and the mother goddess.

On January 6th we will light the fire once more and meet at the threshold of this New Year for a nourishing Day Retreat. Often in our lives we arrive at thresholds. At those times we can ask ourselves – What am I leaving? What am I about to enter? What gifts would enable me to do it?

Our life thresholds are often accompanied by great complexity of emotions-, confusion, fear, excitement, sadness and hope. This is one reason why such vital threshold crossings, in our ancient wisdom, were always clothed in ritual. On this Retreat we will acknowledge and celebrate this meeting at the threshold and this crossing.

During our ‘Deepening the Senses’ Day Retreat we deepen into the world of the senses – awakening a more grounded authentic connectedness to ourselves and bringing conscious awareness in our bodies to our presence in the world. We will awaken our own creative wellspring, by learning to attune more deeply to our senses, the aliveness in our bodies, and learn to listen to the wisdom that is held within. So often in our lives, for many reasons, we listen more to our thoughts than we do to our embodied selves. When we learn to connect to our bodies it talks to us in the language of sensations, letting us know how we really are in every moment. When we learn to connect inward we learn how to support ourselves more fully in our lives.

This work will help us to deepen our understanding of ourselves in an embodied way drawing on the wisdom of myth, dreams and the external landscape. By attuning to our own inner journeying we will begin to appreciate in our subtle bodies the richness of the present moment in our lives.
This is work that draws on neuroscientific evidence based research, psycho therapeutic theories and practices from an Embodied/Gestalt, Attachment and Jungian perspective.

When we listen to myths, if we let ourselves step into their world of poetry and imagination, we step out of the rational concrete patriarchal world of our time and into the symbolic life. In this way we become receptive to our inner environment, and the energies of life and the archetypal patterns living through us.

During the retreat we will spend time indoors and outdoors exploring that sensory embodied connection. The day will be a mixture of myth, dream work, meditation and Art work as well as poetry and gentle mindful movement. The day retreat will provide a nurturing space with time to let go of everyday commitments and attune to ourselves.

There will be free time to walk in the lovely woodlands surrounding the centre, or rest in the sanctuary itself by the log fire. It is a day of connection to the self, a day for deeper nourishment and enjoyment in a beautiful tranquil setting.

A nourishing two course lunch as well as freshly baked scones, tea and coffee, are also provided.

The aim is to create a warm atmosphere where we will awaken the senses, meet like minded people, deepen our understanding of ourselves and explore the sensual in our everyday lives.

Prior experience of body work and personal therapy work, whilst desirable, is not essential.

Deepening the Senses ‘Awakening the Feminine’ Residential Retreat September 2017

awakening the femininePAINTING BY LUCY CAMPBELL – TITLED ‘CRONE’. COMMISSIONED ESPECIALLY FOR EILEEN NÍ SHUILLEABHÁIN RETREATS

‘To be sensual, is to respect and rejoice in the force of life, of life itself, and to be present in all that one does, from the effort of loving to the breaking of bread’ – James Baldwin.

‘This is the beginning of a road whose end is totally unknown and totally known’  – Marion Woodman

You are invited to join me for the popular ‘Deepening the Senses’ Retreat in the beautiful heartland of the Boyne Valley in County Meath. This is an ancient mythical  landscape, world renowned for being the site of the sacred Hill of Tara and the megalithic site of Newgrange, Knowth and Lough Crew. In ancient lore these sites were the home of the Gods and the entrance into the other world.

During our ‘Deepening the Senses – Awakening the Feminine’ Retreat we explore the world of the senses – connecting to the archetypal energy of the feminine – awakening a more grounded authentic connectedness to ourselves and bringing conscious awareness in our bodies to our presence in the world. Through an embodied psychotherapy approach,  we will draw on the realm of myth and archetypes to deepen into the senses, exploring our connection to the wisdom of the ancient dreaming landscape that surrounds us, attuning all the while to our own inner journeying, appreciating in our subtle bodies the richness of the present moment in our lives.

When we listen to myths, if we let ourselves step into their world of poetry and imagination, we step out of the rational concrete patriarchal world of our time and into the symbolic life. In this way we become receptive to our inner environment, and the energies of life and the creative energy of the feminine that is calling us. In ‘Awakening the Feminine’ we will be working with that feminine energy- the Brigid archetypal energy, that connects us in a deeper way to our embodied selves.  We will engage in a dialogue with body and psyche listening to the images that arise from the body, from the unconscious, from our dreaming lives. We will connect to the ‘wise woman’ archetype, bringing alive the rich authentic relationship with her in the inner world whilst staying awake to the outer rich mythical landscape that will support us.

This work is based on psychotherapeutic theory and neuroscientific research, that looks at how we can open up new neural pathways in the brain where trauma from the past have restricted us. This work is developed to allow a letting go of those old patterns and complexes in an embodied way and open up new pathways to creativity and wholeness for ourselves.

During the retreat we will spend time indoors and outdoors exploring that sensory embodied connection to the landscape. We will also be utilising the medium of poetry and images, gentle mindful movements, art and clay work, meditation, and dream imaging, exploring the language of our dreams and their symbols in our psyches to assist us. The two days will provide a nurturing space with time to let go of everyday commitments and attune to ourselves.

There will be free time to walk, relax, rest and enjoy the surrounding countryside. You will enjoy good nourishing food and on our last evening after our féasta (n.celtic feast) we will gather at the hearth and the log fire, for the ancient tradition of our ancestors – sharing  songs and poetry, music, story-telling and conversations. We aim to create a warm atmosphere where we will awaken the senses, deepen our understanding of ourselves and explore the sensual and awaken the feminine energy in our everyday lives.

Prior experience of body work and personal therapy work, whilst desirable, is not essential.

‘To find her it is necessary for women to return to their instinctive lives, their deepest knowing. So let us push on now, and remember ourselves back to the wild soul. Let us sing her flesh back onto our bones. Shed any false coats we have been given. Don the true coat of powerful instinct and knowing. Infiltrate the psychic lands that once belonged to us. Unfurl the bandages, ready the medicine. let us return’ .

‘DEEPENING THE SENSES – AWAKENING BEALTAINE’ DAY RETREAT

if you listen to the wisdom of your body

love this flesh and bone,

dedicate yourself to its mystery

you may one day

find yourself smiling from your mirror

                                              – Marion Woodman

You are invited to join me for Deepening the Senses Day Retreat this May 5th 2017. This Workshop/Retreat takes place in the beautiful retreat centre ‘The Sanctuary’ nestled in stunning woodlands in Clarinbridge,  Co. Galway.

In ancient times Bealtaine celebrated the end of the dark half of the year and the coming of the light half. It coincided with the start of the harvesting season. It is a time steeped in myth, story and ritual. Bealtaine was the time when the Cailleach, who presides over the cold half of the Celtic year, bathes in her wells and transforms herself into the Iníon Buí, the daughter of the Hag, or Bláthnait, the Flower Maiden.

During our ‘Deepening The Senses’ Day Retreat we deepen into the world of the senses – awakening a more grounded authentic connectedness to ourselves and bringing conscious awareness in our bodies to our presence in the world. On this day retreat, we will awaken our own creative harvest wellspring, by learning to attune more deeply to the senses, the aliveness in our bodies and learn to listen to the wisdom that is held within. So often in our lives, for many reasons, we listen more to our thoughts than we do to our embodied selves. When we learn to connect to our bodies it talks to us in the language of sensations, letting us know how we really are in every moment. When we connect inward we learn how to support ourselves more fully in our lives. In May we will be crossing the threshold of equinox and solstice, moving into the power of the sun. Fire at Bealtaine represented the ritual of sacrifice and renewal. Often in our own lives we need to sacrifice our old habits that no longer serve us and allow ourselves to blossom into the fullness of our authentic selves.

This work will help us to deepen our understanding of ourselves in an embodied way drawing on the wisdom of myth, dreams and the external landscape. By attuning to our own inner journeying we will begin to appreciate in our subtle bodies the richness of the present moment in our lives.
This is work that draws on neuroscience evidence based research and psychotherapeutic theories and practices from an Embodied/Gestalt and Jungian perspective.

There will be free time to walk in the lovely woodlands surrounding the centre, or sit in the walled garden nearby or rest in the sanctuary itself by the log fire. It is a day of connection to the self, a day for deeper nourishment and enjoyment in a beautiful tranquel setting.

A nourishing two course lunch as well as snacks, tea and coffee, are also provided.

We aim to create a warm atmosphere where we will awaken the senses, deepen our understanding of ourselves and explore the sensual in our everyday lives.

Deepening the Senses – Crossing the Threshold

Deepening the Senses – Crossing the Threshold – January 13th 2017

Deepening the Senses- Crossing The Threshold

“In a way winter is the real spring, the time when the inner things happen, the resurge of nature” – Edna O’Brien

lucycampbell2

Lucy Campbell – Night Unlocked

January is a time of the year for contemplation and reflection. We are on the threshold between the old and the new year, this is a time of letting go and welcoming the new.

We will meet together at the threshold of this New Year on the 13th of January.

This January ‘Deepening the Senses – Crossing the Threshold’ Retreat will acknowledge and celebrate this meeting at the threshold and this crossing.  The weekend will be a mixture of myth, dream work, meditation, art and clay work as well as poetry and gentle mindful movement. There will be periods of silence for quiet reflection and time for rest and walks in the beautiful surrounding countryside. An outdoor hot tub is on site for your use and you can arrange an optional massage or sauna should you wish to do so in your own free time.  We will have time outdoors to connect to the mythical landscape that surrounds us. On our last evening we will gather together for the ancient tradition of sharing song, music, story-telling and conversations.

The venue for Teallach’s January retreat is the stunning Ard Nahoo in Dromahair, Co Leitrim. This beautiful setting is nestled on the Sligo/Leitrim border in countryside that is only a short distance from the shores of Lough Gill and the Lake Isle of Inisfree. This is  landscape that offered an abundance of inspiration to Yeats throughout his life. On the horizon you can see Knocknaree – the final resting place of Queen Maeve of Connaught.

Ard Nahoo, Teallach’s Venue for 2017, was voted among the ‘top ten retreat destinations in the world’. Teallach is delighted to welcome you here this coming January.

Prior experience of psychotherapy is desirable, but not essential.

“..It is wise in your own life to be able to recognise and acknowledge the key thresholds; to take your time; to feel all the varieties of presence that accrue there; to listen inward with complete attention until we hear the inner voice calling you forward.  The time has come to cross…

John O ‘Donoghue.
