This course is the first course in the five-part A Journey Inward series.
It can be taken as part of the course series or standalone.

This is a self-paced, reflective online course

The work is offered with care, spaciousness, and respect for each person’s pace and inner world.

An Invitation

In the Celtic tradition, Imbolc marks the beginning of Spring. It is a time of rebirth and new hope. The earth stirs from its winter slumber, the hard frosts thaw, and the first green buds and shoots appear, bringing with them the promise of transformation. Brigid, the ancient triple Goddess, is celebrated on Lá Bríde -Brigid’s Day at Imbolc where the seeds that have incubated in winter begin to emerge and bring new life.

Rooted in Irish Myth & Ancestral Memory

This work is grounded in Irish mythology and Folklore— not as story alone, but as a living language of the psyche.

Across cultures, myth has served as a language for inner experience — offering images and stories that reflect the psychological journeys of loss, exile, return, and restoration. In Irish mythology and folklore, themes of separation, wandering, and homecoming echo the inner movements of self-abandonment and return.

In A Journey Inward, myth, image, and symbol are not approached as stories to be learned, but as mirrors of the inner life — helping us recognise, feel, and re-inhabit parts of ourselves that may have gone quiet or unseen.

This is not about learning mythology. It is about deepening your relationship with your own inner symbolic life and remembering yourself through it.

The Heart of This Course

This course explores the wound of self-abandonment and the vital need to create sanctuary—both within ourselves and in the world around us, as we deepen into the healing of this wounding. When we experience trauma in childhood, it can disrupt our relationship to self-worth, erode our confidence, and shape an inner dialogue rooted in fear, shame, and silence. We may ignore our inner voice, struggle to set boundaries, and feel responsible for others’ emotions. We can become anxious, hyper-vigilant, and disconnected from our own needs—haunted by the sense that we are “too much” or “not enough.”

With the support of Brigid and her sacred cloak—once said to stretch across the whole of Ireland in times of need—we will gently explore how to come home to ourselves. Together, we will tend to the soil of self-compassion, explore the roots of guilt, regret, and stuckness, and begin to restore connection to our inner ground.

Join Eileen on a journey inward. Together, we will explore, through the work of Psychotherapy, Depth Psychology and Irish Mythology, how we can support ourselves through self-compassion, sanctuary and creating spaces of growth and ritual in our daily life.

Themes We Explore Together

Themes explored include:

  • The mythology and symbolism of Brigid as goddess, saint, and keeper of sacred fire, and how her presence continues to shape Irish cultural memory, imagination, and spiritual life.

  • The return of light, renewal, and inspiration at the threshold of early spring, and what this seasonal turning point can teach us about cycles of rest, emergence, and new beginnings.

  • Brigid as a figure of healing, creativity, and transformation, and how these qualities can be understood within both the mythic tradition and our own inner psychological landscape.

  • The symbolic meaning of sacred wells, fire, and the natural world in Irish myth and folklore, and how these elements invite reflection on nourishment, warmth, and the sustaining forces of life.

  • The role of poetry, storytelling, and creative expression within the Celtic tradition as pathways into imagination, soul, and deeper ways of knowing.

  • The movement from the stillness of winter toward new life, growth, and possibility, and how this transition mirrors the unfolding of our own inner processes.

  • Ritual, reflection, and ancestral practices associated with Imbolc and Brigid’s feast day, and how these traditions can support moments of pause, attention, and renewal.

  • Reawakening a sense of inner creativity, insight, and spiritual connection, allowing inspiration to move again through the body, imagination, and everyday life.

You are invited to meet these themes gently, listening for what stirs in your own inner world.

This course is for you if…

  • You feel drawn to the archetypal presence of Brigid—keeper of sacred fire, healing, poetry, and creative inspiration—and are curious about how her mythology can illuminate renewal and transformation in your own life.

  • You sense that the wound of self-abandonment may be shaping your relationship with yourself, your self-worth, or your inner voice, and you are seeking a compassionate space to begin healing these patterns.

  • You recognise the presence of self-criticism, shame, or anxiety in your inner dialogue and want to better understand how these patterns formed and how they affect your sense of vitality and connection.

  • You are longing to cultivate a deeper sense of inner sanctuary, learning how to support yourself with greater compassion during times of vulnerability, change, or emotional intensity.

  • You feel called to explore healing through embodiment practices, reconnecting with the body as a place of grounding, safety, and wisdom.

  • You are drawn to the richness of Irish mythology, folklore, poetry, and the landscape, and are curious about how these traditions can deepen your relationship with imagination, soul, and personal transformation.

You will learn…

In this course, you will deepen your understanding of the self-abandonment wound and how it shapes your relationship with self-worth, inner dialogue, and emotional connection. Through reflection, mythic exploration, and gentle embodiment practices, you will learn how to recognise patterns of self-criticism and shame, cultivate greater self-compassion, and begin restoring a sense of inner sanctuary. Guided by the symbolism of Brigid and the wisdom of Irish mythology, poetry, and ritual, the course supports you in reconnecting with your creative life force and nurturing new possibilities for healing, renewal, and transformation.

FAQ

  • All workshops, courses, programs and products are designed to support your personal development. They are not designed to diagnose, prescribe or recommend any specific psychological, psychiatric or physical health interventions. Anyone engaging in this work agrees to take responsibility for their own personal wellbeing and should they need to consult an individual licensed, qualified healthcare professional, they will do so at their own discretion.

  • I wanted to translate the live workshops into a more impactful video-infused format that creates a more immersive and enjoyable experience. You can go at your own pace and start whenever you feel called to step into the journey inward. The essence of the courses is the same as the live workshop versions and still draws on aspects closest to my heart, from mythology, poetry, and the ancient Gaelic Celtic world, connecting to the body and the deeper symbolic, soul self.

I have added extra sections for deeper reflection, videos that share the myths in a visual format, and journal invitations to help you directly apply the work to your daily life.

About

Eileen Ní Shuilleabháin

BSocSc, MA Social Work, MA Psychotherapy, Dip Supervision, Dip Jungian Psychology, Certified Coach (WCI)

I am a Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapist, Supervisor, and Personal Development Coach with over 20 years of experience. I work internationally and am dual-located in the US and Ireland (in Northern Nevada and on the West Coast of Ireland, in Connemara). I work from a Jungian and depth-oriented perspective, integrating Jungian Psychology, Psychodynamic and somatic therapies.

I grew up in Connemara, a wild and rugged landscape on the Atlantic coast of Ireland. Oscar Wilde famously said of the region, “Connemara is a savage beauty”. I grew up in a small, rural Gaeilge (Irish) speaking community where Gaeilge is my first language, and is still spoken today in people's homes. This area was a major centre for the work of the Irish Folklore Commission, recording endangered folklore, mythology, sean-nós (old-style) songs, and oral literature. I have been greatly influenced by the wild physical landscape and immersed in those ancient songs, stories, customs, myths, legends, and music since childhood.

My work interweaves the Gaelic (Irish) World and Otherworld with Jungian Depth Psychology. The Gaelic world, with its symbols, language, myth, folklore, literature and heritage, becomes a doorway through which you can enter and explore your own inner landscape. I desire to share with you a felt sense of that ancient culture and spirit and, as a Psychotherapist, support how that connection can nourish and guide you on your personal development journey.
